A few months ago I was at a book club meeting where everyone was to share their most favorite book. This meeting was all women and a lot of them were saying. "I've read lots books but I can never remember what happens or the characters." A dear friend of mine, whom I deeply admire, finally said, "If you can't remember the books you've read, you're reading the wrong books."! I think some of the ladies were a little offended but my friend was so right. I've reflected on her comment a few times. I've decided books are like dessert. I love chocolate chip cookies, in all varieties. I could eat them everyday. They are great. But a few years ago a friend made use a chocolate trifle. WOW! Layers of chocolate, raspberries, cream. Oh, it was so good. I have never forgot that dessert. I have recently finished
Great Expectations by Charles Dickens. Amazing. It was rich was words, deep characters, and an unforgettable plot. This book is a chocolate trifle of dessert. While chocolate chips cookies are good, chocolate trifle is unforgettable. Have you read a chocolate trifle book lately?
Masterpiece Theater recently made a new version of
Great Expectations. I don't think it's available online anymore but it's out on video. Of course, not as good as the book but I loved watching it.
What a good way to look at it! I've been needing a good book lately, maybe I will read this!
