Evel Running

Since school got out last May, the kids and I have gone to the canyon rim trail at Shoshone Falls every Mon/Wed.  We run/walk the train to the Evel Knievel jump site. Yes, that brilliant Evel tried to "jump" the canyon but that is a different story.  The jump site is our turnaround spot. An impressive mound of dirt leftover from Evel. The 3 mile trail has a few really steep hills and a few rolling hills.  I LOVE the trail and run it year round.  The kids, not so much.  We've had weeping, wailing, and maybe some gnashing of teeth but I drug them out of bed two mornings a week.  I kept telling them they could sleep 5 mornings a week.  They should feel blessed! Meg and Porter went to the Evel site each time.  I walked with Grace and Annie.  We made it half way but always up the steepest hill. We've had some moms join us and a few other middle schoolers with moms just as cool as me.  Today, was our last day.  Grace and Annie made it to the end!  Yeah, they've officially been to the mound of dirt Evel Knievel jumped off.  You're impressed, right? Well, I'm impressed and grateful for these kids.  Grateful for our talks.  Grateful for the crying and feeling accomplished at the end.  Grateful for the beauty.  Grateful to see the temple as we peak around a hill. Grateful for our able bodies.  Grateful for the warmth of the sun. Grateful for friends and maybe grateful for Evel Knievel who tried something impossible, failed but at least he tried.
Now we have a mound of dirt to run to.  Thank you.
